MORE than 260 people in 67 teams took part in this year’s Rotary Club of Crediton Industrial Bowls tournament, hosted by Crediton Bowling Club.
The teams of four people came from many of the town and area’s businesses, clubs and organisations.
The competition has been run on an annual basis for more than 40 years.
The semi-finals took place between Colebrooke Parish Hall, Evans Newsagents Team Two, Graphic One and the Runaways skittles team.
Semi-finalists the Runaways beat Colebrooke Parish Hall team 23-18 shots and the other semi-finalists Graphic One beat Evans Newsagents Team Two 25-23 shots, in what was described as good games.
The finalists were Graphic One and the Runaways, and it was Graphic One who were the eventual winners 19-12.
The Graphic team comprised Ian Bond, Neil Ford, Dave Pickard and Simon Cartlidge and the Runaways team comprised Colin Ladd, Steve Hodges, Colin Hooper and Kevin Woolacott.
Rotarian David Bettoney, joint-president, Rotary Club of Crediton, presented the trophies at the end of the tournament.
He thanked all those who had taken part and also those who helped organise it from the Rotary Club and Crediton Bowling Club.
Dorothy Richards, president, Crediton Bowling Club, said that during the two weeks the tournament had taken place, there were no games rained off at all.
However, she said that some vandalism, the pouring of a tin of paint on the green on a Wednesday evening could have stopped play if it had not been for the swift action of the greenkeepers who managed to remove the paint from the grass and ground.
