CREDITON Twinning Association held its annual Boules Tournament on Saturday, June 23.

This event, which was first held in 1989, took place in the Town Square and saw 15 mainly local teams play for the three trophies on offer.

For the first time a team from outside of Europe took part with the team from Seattle in the USA called Les Vaughan’s Veritables taking part (family connections in Crediton).

Teams losing their first match move into the “Plate” Competition and teams winning their first match continue into the second round of the main competition.

Some very close matches took place but eventually the two finalists in the main competition were the Foresters (Nick Hasted, Margaret Phillips, Eddie and Victoria Sherwood) and Les Vaughan’s Veritables (Mike, Kate, Logan and Arlo Vaughan).

After another great match the winners were the Foresters (who won in 2016) with the team from Seattle runners-up.

The Trophies were presented by the Rev Helen Drever, Curate at Holy Cross Church.

In the Plate Competition the team called “Golden Balls” (Jenni and David Pitts, Garry Adams and Sheila Ralph) narrowly beat a team from Crediton Scouts which also included three members of the Vaughan family, Sophia, Maya and Sadie.

Valerie Brewer presented the Plate trophy to the winning team.

This year is the 25th Anniversary of the signing of the Twinning Charter between Avranches and Crediton.
