OUR season at Crediton Bowling Club is rushing on now and August weather is upon us so wet weather gear is essential.

Monday, August 12 was a friendly at Heavitree B.C. with four mixed rinks playing in Exeter, results: D.Richards 15 v 18, E.Flower 17 v 22, R.Gunn 25 v 12, T.Staite 9 v 29 66 – 81 overall to Heavitree B.C.

On Monday evening the second week of the Industrial commenced with the following outcome: Spudlers 26 v 5 Lions, Hooper Services 15 v 11 Smarter Accounting, Duke of York :b: 8 v 19 Ernest Jackson :a:, Rolling Stones 10 v 15 Runaways :a:, Crediton Inn 20 v 9 Firemen, Rotamix 10 v 20 Evans :b:.

On Tuesday, August 13 a friendly with St Thomas B.C. was cancelled due to waterlogged Green, however the Industrial teams played during the evening results: Rose and Crown :b: 24 v 3 Colebrooke Parish Hall :a:, Evans :a: 24 v 7 R.J.Tyres :b:, Tuckers 29 v 9 Rotary, Buccaneers bye conceded by Rotary Boniface, Nomads :b: 21 v 14 Ashgrove Kitchens, Pirates 6 v 31 United Crediton.

On Wednesday, August 14 the Over 60s Men A team were at home to Seaton B.C. R.Andrews 15 v 18 M.Haywood 18 v 12 they collect six points.

The B team played at Heavitree B.C. E.Flowers 16 v 14 G.Newbery 13 v 24, 4 points was their reward.

C team were at Phear Park B.C. results: R.Fickling 6 v 21, T.Richards 19 v 15, 2 points achieved.

The penultimate round before the start of the quarter-finals were held in the evening results: Graphics :a: 15 v 23 Runaways :b:, Spudlers 8 v 25 Hooper Services, Ernest Jackson :a: 10 v 24 Runaways :a:, Crediton Inn 15 v 16 Evans :b:, Tuckers 20 v 10 Buccaneers, Nomads :b: 10 v 24 United Crediton.

Thursday, August 15 was a busy afternoon with a visit from Tiverton West End B.C. results: M.Haywood 24 v 13, G.Newbery 26 v 8, J.Martin 33 v 12, C.Fribbens 9 v 21 M.Chaplin 31 v 8 - 139 – 93 overall score.

Industrial Quarter-finals during the evening Rose and Crown :b: 7 v 20 Evans :a: , Runaways :b: 21 v 11 Hooper services, Runaways :a: 16 V 17 Evans :b: , Tuckers 9 v 25 United Crediton.

It was a fitting end to the matches that yet again Evans :b: team played to a draw and needed an extra end to finish winning by one.

On Saturday, August 17 a friendly five rink match against Honiton B.C. was played at Honiton with Crediton winning comfortably: M.Grant 18 v 14 , S.Wollacott 31 v 6 , J.Martin 29 v 13 , S.Forster 19 v 19 , L.Smerdon 19 v 19. Bowlers acknowledged that the green bowled superbly.

A foursome of E.Flower, B.Crilly, R.Andrews and N.Cann represented Crediton in the Coronation Invitation Cup at Madeira B.C. coming a creditable third.

INDUSTRIAL FINALS

At Crediton the Industrial semi-finals took place in the afternoon between Evans A v Runaways B, United Crediton v Evans B, the last end specialists.

The final took place between Evans B and Runaways B result; 15 v 13 and what a final it was with it being nip and tuck all the way until the very last end and last wood bowled like a seasoned professional to take the trophy.

Evans B did not have a bowler with them but still managed to show everyone their class and were certainly worthy winners. The trophies were presented by Malcolm Wilkinson, President of the Rotary Club of Crediton.

Thank you to all players and supporters that have come down to the Bowls Club throughout the fortnight. If you wish to enter next year or try out the sport full-time come and talk to someone at the club.

Sunday was set aside for our President M.Theedom to host a game and the best part, a super tea prepared by Mrs K.Theedom (what a feast).

Winners of the day were R.Paxton, Les Bradfield and Ann Sullivan, runners-up were P.Cookson, G.Newbery and S. Grigg.
