Meanwhile back in Crediton Scott/Simpson played a Morchard Bishop pairing of Mills/Robinson and were fortunate that the rain came and in an exciting last end, they won.
As the heavens opened with Biblical rain falling Crediton’s green became flooded and had to close. However Scott/Simpson and Smerdon/Martin would both play on Thursday evening against the winners of the games moved onto Tuesday evening.
Other venues in the locality were hosting Mens County Pairs. For Crediton Andrews/Scott travelled to Topsham B.C. where they lost their second round; Chamberlain/Vickery played at Exonia and unfortunately lost (score not available).
On Tuesday, June 11 a six-rink friendly was arranged with Exmouth Madeira B.C. with a good win for Crediton bowlers; S.Woollacott 11 v 17 D.Grant 18 v 11 E.Flower 27 v 13 M.Grant 23 v 19 C.Rainford 19 v 14 M.Haywood 21 v 16 - 119 v 90 overall.
Tuesday evening saw the Ladies County Pairs that were abandoned on Monday take place with V.Stone/J.Stone winning against D.Hammett/ L.Wood and A.Stone/N.Parsons winning against B.Cann/ J.Flower. These two pairs will now proceed to Thursday evening.
Wednesday, June 12 saw our Yellow team of Over 50s host Sidmouth but were overcome in the second half of the match, result: C.Marshall 13 v 10 D.Richards 14 v 22.
Our Green team did slightly better during the afternoon with J.Martin winning 18 v 16 M.Scott 19 v 20 with overall points 4-2 going the Greens way.
Over 60s Mens A team played at Seaton B.C. and came away with six points R.Andrews 19 v 9 R.Scott 19 v 21.
Over 60s B team had their match cancelled and the C team played at home to Phear Park B.C. Losing on both rinks D.Grant 16 v 20 T.Richards 19 v 8.
Wednesday evening a National Mixed Pairs of Bond/Simpson was played at Crediton which saw them winning through to the next round.
Thursday, June 13 was a second trip to Exmouth Madeira B.C. for a Crediton Ladies team who were challenging a team of Exmouth Ladies but due to the inclement weather another match was abandoned.
This was also the outcome of the Crediton Mens League/County Trophy game against Topsham B.C. as it was called off by Topsham. This will be played at a later date.
After a day of rain two County Pairs games decided who went through to the county finals. V.Stone/J.Stone overcame Smerdon/Martin while Scott/ Simpson won over A.Stone/Parsons both pairs will now represent section four in the finals.
Friday, June 14 saw Crediton’s Ladies set off early to challenge Exmouth Madeira B.C. in the National Top Club, of the four disciplines Crediton won two, lost two but won on overall shot difference.
The weather stayed dry on Friday evening so our members enjoyed their usual Umbrella evening.
Saturday, June 15 was the Ladies County four wood singles, both A and B sections played at Crediton with the draw being made on the morning.
Two Crediton ladies proceed through to County Finals: M.Scott and C.Marshall - obviously home advantage played a part!
On Saturday afternoon a six-mixed rink game was arranged with Bideford Victoria Park B.C. which someone forgot to mention was a “Friendly”, now we know what it feels like bowlers to be on the receiving end. Results: M.Chaplin 12 v 18 E.Flower 16 v 24 T.Richards 12 v 20 C.Fribbens 12 v 23 S.Woolacott 16 v 19 M.Haywood 16 v 19.
Sunday morning (June 16) found eight men on the green playing the National 2x4 competition against South Molton B.C. which they duly won when South Molton conceded after 16 ends.
During the evening a County Triples match took place, with four of Crediton’s Men who played in the morning being joined by two women for the Newbery/Reynolds clash, in a match where a single shot could change the result.
L.Reynolds, on the 15th end, struck the jack and collected a six which moved the game to a 17v14 difference. With their team they shortened the jack and on the 18th end it was all square so had to play an extra end which resulted in a win for the Newbery triple.
