MONDAY, June 3 was the nominated day for Ladies County Pairs in section four so onto the green at Crediton A.Simpson and M.Scott came and played a new pairing from Topsham B.C. which Crediton won.
During the afternoon C.Rainford and M.Chaplin played M.Carpenter and A.Sullivan with the pairing of Carpenter/Sullivan winning. They now proceed forward to play the Scott/ Simpson pair.
On this day Smerdon/Martin visited North Tawton to play Arscott/Summers. Smerdon/Martin proceed onto next round.
Monday evening there was a Mens County Pairs between four Crediton players Andrews /Scott v Reynolds/Tapp with the pairing of Andrews/Scott winning.
Wednesday, June 5 the Mens Over 60’s B and C teams welcomed Maderia C and Uffculme B respectively with differing results B team lost at home E.Flower 24 v 16 G.Newbery 11 v 25.
Whilst the C team won on both rinks D.Grant 24 v 10 T.Richards 21 v 14 collecting a full eight points.
The A team was playing at Heavitree B.C. R.Andrews 35 v 4 and M.Haywood suffering the reverse fate of 3 v 24 points won six to Crediton A.
Wednesday evening saw the Ladies of Crediton travel to Great Torrington B.C. to play Interclub against Combe Martin B.C. Both Crediton rinks won so onwards to next round.
Thursday, June 6 started very busy on the green, a Ladies County Pairs game took place between Marshall/Grant v Hammett/Wood with the Hammett and Wood pair winning in the end.
Crediton B played the Tony Allcock 0ver 60s Trophy at Bideford Victoria Park B.C. with a drawn rink and a loss on the last end by the second rink, the team lost to Bideford.
Smerdon/Martin won after travelling to Pinces Gardens B.C to play Radnor/Thomas.
During the evening Crediton Men welcomed Pinces Gardens Men for a four rink League Match results: L.Reynolds 21 v 12 M.Theedom 36 v 7 R.Paxton 29 v 17 T.Newbery 24 v 17.
A mixed four led by I.Bond travelled to Combe Martin B.C and came home very happy. Next round is South Molton.
Saturday, June 8 saw the friendly against Barnstaple Ashleigh Road B.C. cancelled due to lack of players on their part. A County Pairs between Carpenter/Sullivan and Scott/Simpson finally took place on a blustery morning with the Scott/Simpson pair overcoming the excellent bowling produced by Carpenter/Sullivan.
A Crediton Seniors rink made their way to Exonia B.C. and played their first game against an Exonia team of T.Haywood, C.Mees J.Young and D.Veale. Having won this match they went on to play a Topsham B.C. team G.Howland, A.Woodley, A.Osborne and A.Parsons who they subsequently beat. Crediton’s four was T.Newbery, R.Andrews, C.Ladd and R.Scott.
On Sunday, June 9, to finish off a busy week, where quite a few club competitions were played, a County Mixed Triples Robbins v Newbery was played during the morning the result being Newbery and co. 17 v 15 and a yearly fixture of Men versus the Women was played with many a battle being fought on the green between spouses!
Our two captains selected teams and who to play against. Results as follows: Barry Marks, John Heal and Bill Crilly 23 v 11 Maggie Chaplin, Jill Heal and Barbara Baxter Dave Carpenter, Francis Warren and Arthur Turner 21 v 18 Chris Rainford, Glenis/Sue and Marilyn Carpenter Tom Richards, Les Bradfield and Eric Flower 15 v 29 Joan Martin, Carol Haywood and Jane Flower Alex Simpson, John Strong and Dick Grant 10 v 16 Liz Smerdon, Lorraine Wood and Amy Simpson, Gordon Duguid, Michael Davies and Roy Andrews 13 v 11 Myra Grant, Alison Blackburn and Di Hammett, Alan Gibb, Victor Palmer and George Newbery 17 v 12 Dorothy Richards, Sheila Forster and Ann Sullivan, Ron Fickling, Jazz Vickery and Colin Fribbens 14 v 23 C.Marshall, Jill Ayris and Mary Abbott.
In the bowls world it is etiquette for the losers to go first hence the Mens names appearing first: Ladies you won by 13 shots (just in case any were unaware).
A fabulous afternoon was had by all, a big thank you for the wonderful tea and a bigger one to Ted Staite and all the green staff for the wonderful surface that we play upon.
Our Captains would like to thank all those who took part and played the game in the manner it was meant to be.
