A CONTINGENT of members of Crediton Bowling Club set off on their Winter Tour, in the middle of March, and spent an amazingly hot week in Altura, on the coast of Portugal, near the Spanish border.

They were there to play lawn green bowls on grass in March!

Christine Marshall, Crediton Bowling Club secretary, said: “During the holiday week, we played four games of bowls against local clubs, some of whom we had been to before in previous visits (renewing friendships and enjoying the camaraderie).

“Although there were no trophies to be had, we did win every match and brought home good memories of some great games and times we had spent with fellow bowlers in the lovely hot weather that is the Algarve at this time of year.

“Our band of bowlers were drawn from Crediton, Morchard Bishop and Torquay Belgrave and we jelled well as teams during the playing of our matches.

“Roll on the English bowling season  - we can’t wait!”
