THESE last few weeks have seen successes for Crediton Bowling Club members at National and Club level.

One of our club members, Rob Paxton, was part of the successful Devon Team who won the Middleton Cup at Leamington Spa in the National Championships.

Rob had also won eight games to reach the Bowls England Champion of Champions Final but was runner-up to Perry Martin from Kent in a close game 21-19.

Four of our ladies and two of our men reached the National Championships at Leamington Spa. Joan Martin, Muriel Scott, Jill Heal and Mary Abbott played in the Fours and Joan Martin also played in the Senior Pairs with Janet Sherwood from Morchard Bishop.

Chris and Ian Bond, after winning through the South West of England Region, lost in the Quarter Final of the Bowls England Family Pairs at Leamington Spa 21-12 to Geoff and Tom Millership of Leicestershire.

Crediton Bowling Club had a really enjoyable club finals day on Sunday, September 4, which saw a culmination of a lot of hard played bowls throughout the season between club members and was celebrated by a good finals get together of the members who either played or watched.

Players appreciated the support and the onlookers enjoyed the spectacle of good bowling throughout the day. Winners on the day were: Ladies Championship Bev Cann, Men’s Championship and Men’s Handicap Roy Andrews, Men’s Two Woods Bill Crilly, Ladies Non-Cup Sheila Forster, Men’s Bill Bale Cup (Non-Cup) Arthur Turner, Ladies Pairs Carol Haywood and Jill Heal, Men’s Pairs Alan Gibb and Pete Martin, Ladies Two Woods Christine Marshall, Ladies Handicap Muriel Scott.

The Men’s Three Woods between Bill Crilly and either Nick Cann or Chris Bond is yet to play.

Our President and Competition Secretary Dorothy Richards organised all the competitions and the finals day and did so in her usually very efficient way and thanks were given to her for all the hard work.
