ON Saturday, September 22 a team from Colebrooke Short Mat Bowls Club were runners-up in a major Devon Tournament.

Allan Gibb, Ruth Webber, Sue Crilly and Peter Budd, who took part in the Devon Fours competition now qualify to play in the national round next spring.

They were narrowly beaten by Wick from the North West of the county.

New members of the Colebrooke club are always welcome. If you have never played bowls before you will receive a free introductory lesson and can then attend three club sessions on a Wednesday or Friday afternoon.

If you join the club once you have mastered the basics, the annual membership fee is £20 and you pay just £1 each time you play. There are also sessions on Wednesday and Friday evenings for more experienced players.

The club encourages younger people to join as there are great opportunities to advance in the sport. Current National singles champion is a young 17-year-old from Uffculme, Benny Bass.
