A TYPICAL British summer! Monday, June 17 was Unbadged Singles and four Ladies from Crediton Bowling Club attended Morchard Bishop B.C. to challenge for the place available at the county finals.
J.Flower and M Carpenter lost in the first round, D.Hammett lost in the second round and A.Sullivan played extremely well but lost in the fourth round. Better luck next year Ladies.
On a pleasant sunny afternoon five mixed Rinks travelled to North Petherton B.C for a friendly game results: D.Richards 13 v 28 M.Chaplin 20 v 14 E.Flower 20 v 10 J.Ayris 15 v 23 R.Scott 16 v 13. Overall - Crediton 84 v 88 North Petherton.
Tuesday evening (June 18) was a busy time for our bowlers, three rinks were being used for the Internal Triples League.
Although the rain was falling during the morning of Wednesday, June 19 it cleared for a brighter afternoon to allow the Over 60s Men to play their fixtures. The A team were at home to Ottery St. Mary B.C, results R.Andrews 34 v 6 R.Scott 14 v 18. B team were away to Axminster B.C. (results not available).
The C team were away to Ottery St. Mary’s B team and suffered the same fate as the A team, results: K.Snell 9 v 26 R.Fickling 19 v 14.
During the evening our Ladies travelled to Topsham B.C. for a match against Kings B.C. in the Interclub. This is the club where all the International youngsters play, it was a great match but we lost out to better bowlers. Thank you to our supporters, sorry we didn’t give you more to cheer about.
At South Molton a National Mixed Fours took place with a four from Crediton, I.Bond, C.Bond, A.Simpson (nee Bond) and M.Carpenter against a four from South Molton result: a win for the Crediton four who now are in the last four of Devon.
An Over 55s Singles between Di Hammett and Liz Harris (Heavitree B.C.) took place on Thursday afternoon (June 20) with Liz Harris mastering the green the quickest; result 6 v 21 to L.Harris.
Thursday evening there should have been an NBTL triples match at home with Crediton v St. Thomas but St. Thomas called it off due to lack of players.
Also a league county trophy of four rinks was played at Belmont B.C. in Exeter: three rinks won and it was a loss for the fourth.
Friday, June 21 should have seen an Over 50s Yellow v Green match but it will be played later as a Tony Allcock Trophy game had to be slotted in somewhere!
We played against Honiton BC. on a very pleasant morning and one rink trailed all the game while the other rink was nip and tuck. In the end we won by two shots overall. Our next round is against Torbay Country B.C.
Saturday and Sunday (June 22 and 23) was given over to the Men for their Championship week-end. On a lovely sunny Saturday 34 men (the best turnout for years!) played their games down to the quarter-finals.
On the Sunday, during a dry morning, Roy Andrews played Mike Haywood, result 21 v 11 R.Andrews in a very close game. Allan Gibb played Michael Davies, result 21 v 19 A.Gibb. Richard Grant played Richard Gunn, result 6 v 21 R. Gunn.
The other quarter-final between R.Paxton and Paul Lobb was due to be played on Tuesday, June 25.
The semi-final between A.Gibb and R.Gunn was played, result 21 v 9 A.Gibb.
The final will be arranged once all rounds are completed on a date to be agreed.
