DEVON County Badminton Association held its Senior Restricted Tournament at Torquay Town Hall during the weekend of September 13/14. Sisters, Sarah and Hannah Preece of Queens Badminton Club in Crediton had a very successful weekend. Hannah beat 24 times Champion, Betty Blair, in the semi-final of the Ladies' Singles before losing to sister, Sarah, in the final. Having taken the winner and runner-up positions in the Ladies' Singles on the Saturday, Hannah and Sarah played Ladies' Doubles together on the Sunday. Hannah was defending the doubles title she had won the previous year and the sisters were delighted to win the event and take the title of Devon Champions in the Ladies' Doubles. There was also success for Queens player Lauren Theedom who teamed up with Mae-Sing Lim-Cooke of Torquay in the doubles and won the plate competition for first round losers. The Preece sisters followed up their success in the Devon Restricted with a trip to Cornwall for the Badminton England Cornwall Senior Silver Tournament held the following weekend. Hannah and Sarah were delighted to win the Ladies' Doubles event, beating Beulah Moody of Hampshire and Emily Trebert of Guernsey in a closely fought final. This was their first Senior Silver Title. Devon County Badminton held their Junior Restricted Tournament on the same weekend and Queens players had success in all age groups. Grace Lee was runner-up in the Under 11 Girls' Singles and Learna Herkes won both the Girls' Singles and Girls' Doubles in the Under 13 category. Alex Moir was also successful in winning the Under 15 Boys' Singles event. Bronya Pike had travelled to Nottingham the weekend of September 13/14 to play in the Badminton England Under 15 Gold Tournament and won a bronze medal in the Girls' Singles. She entered the higher Under 17 age group in the Devon Junior Restricted and was successful in winning the Under 17 Girls' Singles. Bronya also teamed up with Sophie Laidler, from Torquay, to win the Under 17 Girls' Doubles.
