WORK is almost complete on the installation of a new artificial turf pitch (ATP) at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre, Crediton.

After a successful application to Sport England through the "Inspired Facilities" funding scheme, Mid Devon District Council is proud to announce that the new ATP will be open at the end of February (weather permitting).

The new ATP is being laid on the site of the existing Tarmac hard court area which was in dire need of repair.

After 18 months of applications and bid improvements, the council was finally successful in obtaining an £87,000 grant towards a 61 metre by 61 metre size ATP, which can cater for two seven-a-side football games.

More than 40 letters of support were received by MDDC about the new ATP which demonstrated a real need for the facility in Crediton.

Any local teams wanting to train on the ATP currently have to travel to Exeter, Okehampton or Tiverton.

The new facility at Lords Meadow will not only be a great resource for local football teams, but can also be used by a host of sports including netball and children's activities.

To celebrate the opening of the new ATP there will be a youth tournament organised with local schools towards the end of February/early March.
