SATURDAY, December 3 saw the long awaited derby match between Sandford First team and Crediton Seconds at King George playing fields at Sandford.
On a cold, but dry, afternoon both teams acknowledged a minute’s silence before the start of the match in memory of the young Sandford player who passed away recently.
When the whistle blew both teams started at a fast pace and after three minutes Sam Reeve shot over the Crediton goal.
The game went from end-to-end with Crediton getting the first corner of the match on nine minutes.
With 15 minutes gone Crediton took the lead with a lovely header.
The away side then took control of the game with Sandford defending well with goalkeeper Matthew Parsell making some brilliant saves to keep the score at 0-1.
Sandford continued to battle away bravely, but then in the 26th minute Crediton scored a second (0-2) .
Sandford were two goals behind at half-time, with the hope of better to come in the second half.
When the whistle blew Crediton again got the upper hand and put the home side under pressure and in the 56th minute they made it 0-3.
The game then continued to full time with Crediton missing several chances to increase their lead and at the final whistle it was 0-3 to Crediton. Another gallant effort from the “Ford”.
The Second team made a long journey to Bideford to face Shamrickshire Seconds in the Devon Intermediate Cup but it was not to be with Sandford loosing 4-1.
Next Saturday (December 10) the First team will be at Elmore in the premier league.
The Second team will be at home to Witheridge for their next league match.
The club’s Christmas Bingo will be held at Sandford Parish Hall on Friday, December 9, at 7pm ish with eyes down at 7.45pm.
