CREDITON Youth Football Club held their annual six-a-side tournament at Lords Meadow, Crediton, last weekend.

Turnout was good on the Saturday, games sparkled and, despite a chilly wind and threatening rain, the day was good.

Someone who received more than he bargained for that day was Mike Langhorne who was given a beautiful glass trophy in recognition of his 12 years' of support for the club.

Making the presentation, former secretary Mike Edworthy, said this was "definitely not a farewell award but one for loyal and valued service."

Stuart Maule has taken over from Mike Langhorne as treasurer and Mike is still helping with the organisation of the six-a-side and other aspects of the club.

A presentation was also made to Ian Chattington who retired as chairman, manager and welfare officer, also having dedicated 12 years to youth football at Crediton Youth FC. The Club is now seeking a new chairman and anyone interested in this position should contact the club secretary,

Karen Maule on 01647 24208. The tournament went ahead on the second day despite many showers, some of which were torrential.

About 75 teams took part each day coming from across the county and further afield.

The competitions were a great success and the club would like to thank the many volunteers who give their time freely to make the tournament

such a success. Mike explained that the club relies heavily on the funds raised by this event to enable it to provide football for youngsters aged seven to 16 years. He added: "Crediton Youth FC would also like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Mike Langhorne, Karen Stevens, Karen and Stuart Maule, and Sally-Anne Daniel who not only helped over the whole weekend but were heavily involved in the organisation and preparation for the event. "Also a big thank you to Graham and Mary Avery for all their assistance and co-operation on behalf of Crediton Utd AFC in allowing the use of the first team pitch, changing rooms and toilets."

Any young person wishing to join the club to play football at any age group would be more than welcome, again please contact the club secretary, Karen Maule (see above telephone number) for further details.
