THE ladies of Jo Ashbeth's Fun Bellydance classes had a wonderful time at the recent Morchard Bishop Playing Fields Association Vintage Rally and Fun Day, where they staged displays in the main ring.

They danced to Tarkan's song Simarik and ONdB's song Alaoui.

The troupe danced two separate sessions on the day, one near the beginning and then a second performance later on in the afternoon.

The second session was carefully tailored to the environment as it was deemed that dancing with delicate veils in a strong wind was not advisable!

Performing on the day some of the dancers were beginners with no more than a term or two's experience and some from the intermediate class have been dancing for a number of years.

Jo runs fun beginners bellydance classes from 7pm on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at Woolsgrove Court, Morchard Road (just up the A377 from Crediton).

She explained that as well as learning to dance, the classes are nice and sociable and everyone has fun, although there is no obligation to perform at fetes, so doesn't want that to put people off.

Jo said: "It's just so much fun that people start wanting to do things like that sometimes.

"Far more importantly it's good healthy exercise and activity and a very enjoyable hobby which generally makes people happier."

Taster classes will take place on September 7 and 8 at Woolsgrove Court and on September 9 at the Lords Meadow Leisure Centre, Crediton.

The cost is just £5 per class.

A 10-week course will take place at Lord's Meadow Leisure Centre from September to November, with a break at half term. The cost will be just £50.
