ALL sorts of fictional characters went to school at Yeoford last Friday (March 1) to meet volunteers from Crediton Community Bookshop and talk about books for World Book Day.

This is officially this week but as Friday was the date for the Book Shop’s schools outreach team to visit, it was decided to celebrate World Book Day early.

All the staff joined in as well, each taking a character from the Julia Donaldson books which include "The Gruffalo", "Room on the Broom", "Zog and the Flying Doctors" and many more.

She was Children’s Laureate 2011 to 2013, was awarded the CBE and is also a musician.

Harry Potter was a popular character, there were at least two ballerinas, people from David Walliams’ books and Dennis the Menace among all the literary folk.

On March 7, World Book Day, the school is having a "literary" lunch with choices such as Gruffalo sausages, Mr Stink Beans (baked beans), Jack’s Magic Green Beans, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory short bread fingers.
