A WAVE of prayer around the world that started in Samoa was marked in Crediton when ladies of all the town’s churches came together for the Women’s World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 1, at the Boniface Centre.

Each year the service is put together by a different country. This year it was Slovenia and those attending such services across the world heard the voices of some of those who live there - wives, mothers, grandmothers, Roma people, refugees and migrant workers all telling their stories reflecting the political and economic situation of that country from the time it was a socialist-communist state to the present day.

During the prayers and singing of traditional songs, everyone was given a red carnation as a sign of celebration. A light tea was served at the end.

Next year Zimbabwe is putting the service together, then Vanuatu in 2021, England, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2022, Taiwan in 2023 and Palestine in 2024, each working with a different theme.

This year’s theme was "Come - everything is ready", an open invitation for all to come to God’s table.
