AT the May meeting of CREDITON the President welcomed 23 members. Business was discussed and notices given out.
This was Resolutions evening, although the motion had already been discussed at a previous meeting. The mandatory clear labelling of food products with the true country of origin shown was unanimously carried. This will now go forward to the AGM in Cardiff.
Members were reminded of the outing to Dartmouth in June so there will not be a meeting next month.
The secretary reported on the Spring Council meeting in Torquay. Sally Wilson, Federation Chairman, is standing down. This, therefore, was her last meeting.
This year we had to vote for the county Resolution on badgers; resulting 142 for, four against and six abstained.
Our star attraction was the Doncaster Diva, Lesley Garrett, who is a very funny lady as well as a magnificent singer, who thrilled us all.
Our speaker was Nick Baker on "Gardens of Madeira" with lovely slides. He was thanked by Phil Salter.
Winners of the competition for a floral arrangement in an egg cup: 1 Josie Mashford, 2 Jean Turner, 3 Phil Salter.
Flower of the Month contest was won by Monica Beale and the raffle by Sylvia Heaton.
The July meeting, with speaker Jan Thom, from Cheriton Fitzpaine, who will speak on "40 years with darling". Sounds fun - come along and see what goes on!

BETTY Summers, President of DOWN ST MARY, welcomed members and a guest Sue, who had recently moved to the village.
Correspondence was dealt with and then members voted to go to Waitrose at Okehampton, to see behind the scenes, for their Members Night on June 9, meeting at the village hall at 5.45 pm.
Diane Ollis and Joy Quickenham had undertaken the planning for this and members chose from three options.
Joan Lee then gave a brief report on the Spring Council meeting, after which Rosemary Wedlake was the speaker for the evening with her Artefacts. She introduced many varied items, some antiques, which had been handed down from members of her family and also donated by various friends. For some objects, which were not obvious, she gave uses, while several items drew gasps from members for their gruesomeness.
Others, especially the bead and evening bags, were much admired for their individuality.
Jenny Lee thanked her for an interesting evening and wondered what she would do when she ran out of space in her attic!
MEMBERS of COLEBROOKE held their May meeting at the home of Pearl Hockridge.
The resolution for the AGM in Cardiff was fully discussed and was voted for unanimously. It is our turn to send a representative this year and Hazel Walker will be going to vote on our behalf as well as on behalf of Down St Mary, Crediton and Yeoford.
Several members went to the Spring Council Meeting at Torquay and had a very enjoyable day although felt that the seating arrangements left room for improvement.
A good interest has been shown in the visit to Abbotsbury Swannery and there was discussion on our own summer outing, which will be to Hestercombe Gardens, near Taunton, in July.
Last year we hired a small coach but, after having consulted all the local coach companies, it looks like we will have to drive this time as it's School Activities week and there are not any coaches available!
Pearl was thanked for her hard work as skittles captain, leading our team to victory in the league this season and being awarded the shield at the annual dinner at the Waie Inn, Zeal Monachorum, which was attended by most of our team.
After the meeting closed we had a Bring and Share supper with some very tasty home-made goodies which were enjoyed by all.
The speaker at our June meeting will be Bob Ogden who will talk on the Life of Bees.

PRESIDENT Margaret Tucker, welcomed members at the Resolution Meeting of SANDFORD when secretary, Ann Evans, gave a full report on the resolution for clear labelling on all foodstuffs. This was carried unanimously.
A letter was received from CHICKS thanking members for their donation and the memory bag, which had been made by Phyllis Conibere. It was reported that £48 had been raised at their stall at the recent Street Market.
A future craft workshop was discussed, plus a suggested trip to Powderham Castle, in September, which is being organised by Gwen Cleverdon. The secretary asked for suggestions for their August Meeting.
The competition for a flower arrangement in a egg cup was won by: 1 Dodie Huxter, 2 Joyce Reddaway, 3 jointly between Margaret Tucker and Ann Evans.
Flower of the month: l Margaret Phillips, 2 Margaret Tucker, 3 Ann Evans.
Some Members will be going to the WI exhibition on June 29 at Killerton House.
The next meeting is on Tuesday, June 8, at 7.30pm in the parish hall. The speaker will be Marilyn Jones who will talk and demonstrate Pearls. The competition will be "My Favourite Necklace". New members and visitors are welcome. ^
MEMBERS attending the May meeting of MORCHARD BISHOP were welcomed by President Angie Williams. This was followed by the business section and announcements.
The resolution for NFWI's AGM is for packaged food to display the origin of its contents, nor just where it was put together etc. Everyone voted for this.Maddy Tarrant presented the Rose Bowl to Janet Knight for obtaining the highest average score in the skittles team.
Entertainment was of a professional nature by virtue of two of our talented members performing to everyone's delight and amusement. Maddy Tarrant "was" Joyce Grenfell in both dress and presentation and Hilda Partridge gave forth with one of her inimitable soliloques.
A delectable cream tea and a birthday cake was presented and both were consumed at tables with lovely centre decorations.
There was only one competition, the flower of the month, which was won by Janet Knight with Sue Pluckwell and Jean Findlay joint second.
The meeting on June 9 will have Roger Bristow talking about butterflies.>
