AT a recent Morchard Bishop Parish Council meeting the developers of the proposed Langland Farm Turbine, aided and abetted by the Government, offered the Council £3000 per half MW hour per year, if their application was approved.

Why? If wind turbines beautify the countryside, are harmless to animals, if they rotate silently and if they produce vast quantities of free, "clean" electricity, then why offer an incentive?

To state the obvious, wind turbines are ugly, they kill and maim hundreds of birds and bats each year; they produce illness-inducing noise; they are not "clean" and the amount of electricity they produce is insignificant.

Moreover by offering incentives the Government and the developers assume that their attitude is shared by the people of this community.

If the developers have the interests of our community at heart, then the right thing to do is not build the turbine in the first place.
