ONE of Devon’s most experienced and inspiring public speakers, David Ramsden MBE from Ashburton, has just created his first-ever presentation on climate change.

“There’s an awful lot of fuss being made about Climate Change and people are even talking about extinction” says David “surely things aren’t that bad, are they?”

The easiest thing to do about climate change is ignore it. What’s the big deal anyway? There’s nothing new about extreme weather events. These things have always happened. Even if our climate is changing a bit, what does it matter(?) and how do we know it’s man-made?

David, a co-founder of the Barn Owl Trust, has spoken to more than 40,000 people since he started giving talks about Barn Owls back in 1988.

“I’ve been mentioning climate change at the end of my Barn Owl talks for more than 30 years” says David, “but I didn’t think it would have much of an impact during my lifetime”.

When a few local authorities started declaring a "climate emergency" last year, David was asked to provide a short talk on climate change for Dartmoor National Park Authority.

“After several hundred hours of research I put together ‘An introduction to the Climate Crisis’. By chance, I mentioned this to a group of farmers I was talking to near Holsworthy and I was amazed that they wanted to hear the climate talk too. They had so many questions! That was when I decided to create my first full length talk on climate change”.

When David’s new talk "Climate and Ecological Crisis? What’s all the fuss about?" was first presented in Chagford, extra chairs had to be put out and the audience response was overwhelming with comments like “everyone needs to hear this!”

David is giving this free talk in Crediton on Wednesday, March 25 at 7.30pm at the Boniface Centre.

The new talk provides an easy-to-follow introduction to the whole subject and the solutions some people are proposing.

So, if you’re not sure what climate change is, whether or not it’s really happening, or whether anything really needs to be done about it, why not host or attend one of David’s talks? It’s a great way to find out.
