IN her New Year Message to the people of Crediton, the town Mayor says she thinks 2023 will "not be an easy year", but adds that "when people in our town work together, we make giant strides".

Councillor Liz Brookes-Hocking writes: "A very Happy New Year to everyone in Crediton!

"Whether you work here, live here or are visiting here, I wish you all good health and well-being in the year ahead.

"The year 2023 will see opportunities for the town to come together to celebrate, to remember, to be entertained and to have fun.  Sometimes, for one time only, like the Coronation.  Others will be welcome returns, like St Boniface Day and the Christmas Lights Switch-on.

"Throughout last year, individuals and community groups volunteered their time and energy to organise town events for everyone to enjoy so we have confidence in planning for the future.

"It's not going to be an easy year. But when people in our town work together, we make giant strides.

"Community groups and charities have added services to support people who need help.

"Volunteers have taken on environmental projects.

"Churches and organisations have offered warm spaces to support people through the winter months.

"The many and various voluntary sector groups in Crediton provide activities for people of all ages.

"They are essential to community well-being and are a vital support through difficult times.

Good wishes to all these organisations and to our town businesses for the coming year."
