A FOUL smell has hung over the town of Crediton since Wednesday and was also around yesterday, Thursday, and today, Friday.

Many people are asking what it could be on social media.

Phil Smith commented: “The awful smell from Wednesday afternoon is back. Smells like off fish to me, not the usual dairy or slurry spreading small.

“I think we will contact the Environment Agency. Very bad on Searle Street, our garden is unusable for sitting out this afternoon.

“Can anyone shed any light on where it is worst in Crediton?

“Could it be lorries carrying rotten offal or similar going along the High Street?”

Ian Stoyle said: “I love the smell of muck spreading, I grew up with it, but I’ve never smelt anything like this before, difficult to tell what it is that’s being spread. It stinks.”

Piers Fletcher commented: “You live in the country, obviously not been here long! It’s probably just slurry on fields so farmers can grow what’s going on your plate tonight.

“Probably be moaning about church bells next week!”

Helen Clarke said: “It’s not normal slurry smells.”

Leesa Clare commented: “Is it human manure? That can have a very strange off smell when they spread it.”

Claire said: “It was so potent this afternoon, absolutely horrible fish foul smell across the whole high street, everyone was commenting on it because the shops stunk.”

Eddy Drover commented: “That’s not the usual crap they spread, that’s for sure…”
