THERE is good news for Crediton motorists this evening, Wednesday, July 8, with the reopening of Wellparks Hill and the Tesco roundabout along Exeter Road.
While there are still no road markings place on the highway, motorists will be relieved that the A377 is now open.
Saying this, a bright red road surface surrounds the new Tesco roundabout.
Signs are still in place saying that the road is closed in many areas, however, some have been removed.
Earlier today it was announced by the contractor working on the A377 resurfacing, that the A377 and Tesco roundabout should re-open on Friday - two weeks earlier than anticipated.
It is expected that it will close either tomorrow, Thursday or Friday, for the lines to be re-instated.
Joseph Locke Way and Station Approach is open throughout with traffic controls following the suspension of the Bus Gate prevention of use by motorists. There have been some queues and delays during rush hour times but most vehicles are now using that route.
However, a diversion route is in place from Cowley Bridge to Bickleigh to Crediton.
Some localised one way orders are still in place on Hookway Road (Crediton Golf Course) to reach Crediton and Creedy Bridge to the Beer Engine heading towards Exeter. Signage is in place.
Phase 2 (July 27 to August 28) - works to the north of Joseph Locke Way, between the A377 roundabout and the entrance to Tesco store.
• 2 or 3 way lights will manage traffic flow into Tesco.
Phase 3 (August 31 to October 23) - Works to re-surface Joseph Locke Way.
• Along Joseph Locke Way, 2 or 3 way lights will be moved to encompass work as it progresses.
The works include resurfacing the A377, footpaths and kerb remedials.
It is unknown if Phase 2 and 3 will start earlier due to the earlier expected completion of Phase 1.
