TUBS of flowers now adorn Crediton Railway Station, thanks to the work of members of the Friends of Crediton Station and Crediton Town Council.
Geraniums and other flowers were planted in the beds and tubs on the platforms and outside the Station Tea Rooms.
All this was done thanks to a £300 grant from Crediton Town Council plus funding from the Tarka Rail Association which is given to every station along the Tarka Line, with Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership funds which all help to buy not only the plants but materials as well including buckets and tools.
The planting was organised by the Friends of Crediton Station with the workers including Mike Hodge who has been a member since the inauguration of the Friends, travelling down from Bridgwater each visit, initially with his wife, Jean who has since died.
As well as the platforms, the Friends planted up the tubs outside the Station Tea Rooms. This is open every weekday from 10am-4pm and is becoming a good meeting place for groups including the Friday morning knitters.
Anyone can join at any time to share skills and encourage others.
The cafe’s board games are used not only by visitors but the regular Tuesday Memory Cafe. There is also a book swop. “It is about sharing the laughs,” says Linda Brown, the Tea Rooms proprietor.
Call at the Station Tea Rooms to find out more about the Friends of Crediton Station, or go along on a Wednesday morning when it is likely someone will be working around the platforms.
