ONE couple who will never forget this year’s Yeoford Fun Day are Dan and Nicky Jones who live in the village, got married in Exeter and ended their celebrations - with their wedding cake - at the Fun Day.

They had it all planned. They were going to catch the train from Yeoford into Exeter to get married, then back home, but because of problems on the line, they felt they could not take the chance of the train either being late or not turning up at all.

Fun Day revellers not in the know were surprised to see Nicky in her wedding dress, Dan, their family and friends all in wedding outfits, going around the stalls.

A cake had been made by Carly Harling with the railway logo on it for their rail trip, which Dan and Nicky cut on the field offering everyone a slice. It was a big cake.

There was entertainment that included a demonstration by Crediton and Copplestone Taekwon-Do group, Crediton Detachment Army Cadet Force were there, Mad Mike with his Kick Darts game and the Wipeout Sweeper giving loads of fun for youngsters.

Stalls included a huge cake stand full of colourful cupcakes, the stand made by Dee Hawkins’ husband, the cakes made by Dee and villagers.

The table covered in raffle prizes was largely due to Dee who visited every house in the village, gathering promises of cakes or raffle prizes.

She thanked all the villagers of Yeoford for their donations. There were more than 100 raffle prizes. "I just knocked on doors," said Dee.

The Fun Day was to raise funds for the Community Hall. It was organised by members of the Fun Day Committee and the Community Hall committee.

It was also a chance for folk to take a look at the community garden, created this year by volunteers beside the community hall.

Dee’s husband helped to put up the fencing, Dee put up the poly tunnel, a few other people have helped but Dee would like more.

There are water butts, raised beds with various vegetables and a few fruit bushes.
