I ATTENDED the recent meeting, organised by Crediton Town Council, about Crediton Hospital, which was very well-attended.
Have we lost our freedom of speech? Before the meeting the Mayor, Cllr Frank Letch, made a remark that he didn’t want a lot of the same questions.
This was a public meeting, and remarks from people who have had the use of our hospital would show that not all cases are the same. Quite a few people passed remarks.
My mother had the use of our hospital and passed away there. Also my husband spent time at the hospital. Both had excellent treatment and the best care anyone could ask for.
If Tiverton and Okehampton are the next best I would find this difficult - I can’t drive, so visiting would not be good.
Dr Thurlow and Dr Markby and all of us have given to help our hospital which belongs to the Crediton people. We would like to have the beds reinstated.
If the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital take it over, that would be a big bonus for us.
There again, my husband had the best care and attention from all who looked after him.
I’m sure Dr Helen Tucker, who spoke at the meeting, will help. The few that did speak made very good comments.
Like the cottage hospitals that Dr Tucker showed us, we have helped our hospital so didn’t expect the beds to be taken away from us to save money at the expense of Crediton people.
