IN June 2017 a milestone situated at the corner of Coppice Lane, Sandford, where it meets the Kennerleigh Road, suddenly went missing.
A request has now been issued to try to trace the whereabouts of the missing milestone.
Graham Hope, from Sandford Heritage Group, told the “Courier”: “I know this may be a bit late but I wonder if any of your readers have information on its whereabouts.
“It contains the legend ’11 Miles to Exeter’.
“As a memory jogger this was at the time the road there was being resurfaced.
“I have spoken to members of Devon County Council and the road repairers without success. Alternatively your readers may have seen it in somebody’s garden or for sale at an antique shop, car boot or even on the web?
“Milestones are an important piece of local history, especially as fewer and fewer exist today, and there is now only one in Sandford Parish, so thinking caps on please.”
