PEOPLE who say they would like to help put a stop to speeding motorists in the Crediton area can now put their words into action.

Volunteers are now being sought to help with the Community Speed Watch initiative in the town.

At a recent meeting of the Community Safety Local Action Group for the Crediton area, the group heard from Mid Devon District Councillor for Crediton, Bob Wright, that there is still a need for volunteers to help with the town's Community Speed Watch initiative.

Cllr Wright himself has been a volunteer for Community Speed Watch for three years.

He said: "Many residents have concerns of speeding in their neighbourhoods throughout Crediton and the rural communities.

"This is an ideal way for residents to support the police in addressing the issues.

"Volunteers are needed to undergo training in order to monitor the speed of vehicles at specific venues around the area or to undertake the back office work at the police station where we track the vehicle's owner and send letters of advice regarding appropriate speeds.

"We do not stop or engage with the drivers at the roadside."
