CREDITON is gearing up for an even brighter Christmas, thanks to the efforts of the "Christmas in Crediton 2014" committee, Crediton Arts Centre and sponsors, Helmores, Crediton Dairy and Crediton Town Council.

As part of the celebrations, there will be a Victorian theme for the Switch on Parade evening on Friday, November 28.

The parade will assemble at St Lawrence Green at 6.45pm, ready to leave, dressed in Victorian costume, with top hats and bonnets, at 7pm.

Everyone is invited to join the parade to the Town Square, where there will be the grand Switch On of the lights on the Town Christmas tree.

There will also be music and the tree lights fronting shops and businesses in the town will be switched on.

The committee is grateful to the Rotary Clubs of Crediton who will be providing marshals for the parade and assisting with the road closure which will be put in place.

More volunteer marshals would be welcome and anyone who thinks they could help by being a marshal during part of the evening is asked to contact the town clerk, Mrs Clare Dalley or administrative assistant Emma Lucas on 01363 773717.

Mrs Dalley said that it is not too late if anyone or any business or organisation would like to sponsor some aspect of the Christmas celebrations which are being organised by the committee and other groups.

This includes the Fayre in the Square on December 13, Crediton Parish Church Christmas Tree Festival from December 4 to 7 and Town Christmas Party on December 20.

Further details on all these events, and further details about the Switch On Parade, will follow.
