UPTON Pyne Flower Show, held on April 28, was an overwhelming success and the village hall was full of colourful flowers and shrubs.
There were 18 different classes, plus homecraft, photography and children’s painting displays of flowers by pupils at Brampford Speke Primary School.
The judging was undertaken by visitors placing pennies under the exhibit they thought was best, and all winners received a pot plant as their prize.
One entry of a garden on a plate by Joan Nethercott was very clever and colourful with a small container in the centre of tiny tadpoles in water - this received many pennies!
In the homecraft section, the winner of the lemon drizzle cake was Jilly Baker and Ros Rowlerson won the prize for her gingerbread.
The children’s paintings of flowers made a colourful background to the displays of flowers and the Gold Star winners were Ebobie Styles (8), Emily Meldon (5), Jacob in year 3, Elwyn Styles, Year 2, Tiffany Boyle (11), and Isla and Eliza in reception.
Another exhibitor, Nick Baker, who had a very large red geranium also received a number of votes.
The ladies on the refreshment stall were kept busy serving teas and coffees and delicious home-made cakes. Chairman June Nicks and Chris Grundy, show secretary, extended their sincere thanks to all who had taken part, and were amazed at the number of exhibits, especially after all the recent bad weather.
