CREDITON Community Bookshop, the only independent bookshop in Mid Devon to be owned by 300 local people, will be celebrating Independent Bookshop Week from June 18 to 25.
The bookshop is run as a social enterprise, stocking a unique and varied range of carefully chosen books and promoting community, local authors and children’s literacy by organising author visits to schools and other bookish events.
A spokesperson for the bookshop said: “Our patron, Michael Morpurgo, has been shortlisted for an Independent Bookshop Week children’s award and we’re very proud of him.
“We have some great stuff planned for Independent Bookshop Week.
“Teaming up with a Bristol based illustrator we have created a CCB Reader’s Map to inspire readers (a story or writer’s map, only for readers).
“Throughout the week our team of volunteers will be recommending, reviewing books and publishing desert island book lists to be announced on social media and at the shop throughout the week.
“Like us on Facebook to keep in touch with CCB events.
“We want to encourage everyone to come and visit us, or their local independent bookshop, during Independent Bookshop Week.”
Be inspired, read something new or a forgotten classic, buy a book you’ve always wanted to read and support local bookshops everywhere!
