ALEX Scarrow, the author of the popular “Timeriders” series, visited Crediton to give Queen Elizabeth’s School’s Year Seven students an inspiring and frenetic introduction to his world during the morning of Friday, June 23.

“Timeriders” is an exciting sci-fi series aimed at young adults.

In the novel, time travel has been invented and unscrupulous criminals use the technology to create alternative histories…it is up to our intrepid heroes, each plucked from different times at the moment just before they die, to identify and restore these anomalies.

Alex Scarrow was vibrant and hilarious as he spoke about his life before writing and the nerdy world of computer gaming, he pitched his talk perfectly for the students.

The students were fully engaged and asked lots of questions at the end of his talk. This followed with Alex signing books for both Year Seven and Eight students in the library.

After break time, Alex delivered two workshops to Year Seven, on imagination and creating different ideas, rather than copying the tired old ones that according to Penguin Publishers, happens nine out of 10 times they receive a new novel.

The workshops were fun, informative and engaging. This is how authors can inspire students to read and write.

Mr Logan, the schools librarian, said: “Mr Scarrow was such a hit, I am sure QE will be seeing him again!”
