Plan to convert toilet block into food outlet

THE story "Plan to convert former Crediton toilet block into a food outlet" appeared in the Courier on Friday, February 23, issue 1178.

A planning application has been submitted to Mid Devon District Council for the conversion of the former public toilets at St Lawrence Green in Crediton to be turned into a food outlet/kiosk and to keep one cubicle as a public toilet.

The application has been made by Andy Gray of M C Kelly Ltd of Elstone Farm at Copplestone who said they would paint and improve the building and the only change to the outside would be to cut a serving hatch and fit shutters to the west side.

The application stated that the outlet would be offering cooked food.

Crediton Town Council raised no objection to the plan.

What do you think of turning the public toilets into a food outlet?

What you told us ……….

I think there are enough food outlets in Crediton. Although it would stop the children coming into the High Street area of the town. But that might affect the local businesses.

I think we need the toilets more. I can’t see it working - I don’t fancy eating out of a toilet!

It’s better than being empty. It would be good providing the building is done-up properly and serves good quality food. I would like to see something like good quality pizzas or burgers being served there and something healthy like salads. I’m up for it as long as it’s done properly and doesn’t affect existing businesses. It’ll be a shame if it’s just a quick fix.

I think it’s probably a good idea as long as they don’t throw litter all over the ground and they don’t use plastic. It would be good though to keep a toilet for pubic use.
