THE story entitled "Range of parking restrictions for Crediton and local villages" appeared in the Courier on Friday, September 15, issue 1155.

DEVON County Council (DCC) is proposing a range of parking restrictions in Crediton and some of the surrounding villages to resolve minor parking issues, which have been reported to the council and considered as part of the Mid Devon Highways and Traffic Orders Committee (Mid Devon HATOC) local waiting restrictions programme.

DCC say this is to avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the road or for preventing the likelihood of such danger arising, for facilitating the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians) and to preserve/improve

the amenities in the area through which the roads run.

The proposed parking restrictions, which could be just short sections of road, include Threshers, Landscore, Thurlow Close, Waresfoot Drive and East Street in Crediton, Bewsley Hill at Copplestone, and at two locations in Sandford, The Square and the road from Crofts estate to the Lamb Inn.

Do you think the proposed parking restrictions will help with parking issues?

What you told us ...

There’s not a great deal of parking now. East Street is an area where people park on the road they don’t have a choice.

I live in Church Street and there are forever people parking there when they come into town which means I can’t park outside my house. A trailer has been left there for many months and is taking up space. It is difficult to park in Crediton and it’s expensive to park in the car parks.

Back along the police looked into parking on the pavements in Waresfoot Drive and People’s Park Road but it’s still happening. A few days ago I saw a man in a wheelchair having to remove a piece of polythene from a wheel on his wheelchair right where a man sells cars from the pavement. I have asked the traffic warden what we can do about parking on the pavements and he couldn’t come up with an answer. There is a lot of illegal parking which affects residents in those areas. We’ve had people parking so close to our front gate that we’ve been unable to use it and when I’ve confronted drivers about this they have been very abusive. The police said it should be stopped but nothing seems to have been done.

There are always problems with parking in Sandford. Just this morning there was a lorry coming down through Back Lane trying to pass a tractor, three cars and a bus! This part of the village is very narrow and is not mentioned in the proposal by Mid Devon District Council.
