THE story appeared in the Courier on Friday, August 21, issue 1047.

Crediton Mayor and District Cllr Frank Letch handed over a petition to Mid Devon District Council’s chief executive, Kevin Finan for him to take to a forthcoming meeting.

The petition was the idea of six-year-old Olivia Hubbard who was worried that the play area at Beech Park, Crediton, where she lives, might be closed.

The play area is one of 27 play areas run by Mid Devon District Council that are under threat of closure due to budget cuts.

Other local play areas under threat of closure include Fernworthy Park at Copplestone, Fulda Crescent, Spinning Path Gardens and Greenway in Crediton, Greenaway at Morchard Bishop, Spindleberry at Chulmleigh and Godfreys Gardens and St Martins Close at Bow.

Members of the public are encouraged to complete an online survey at: www.middevon.gov.uk/getinvolved or via https//www.surveymonkey.com/r/playareas.

The results will be reported to the council’s Managing the Environment Policy Development Group at its meeting this month.

The council proposes to close some “under-used” play areas to allow the limited resources to be spent on play areas that are used more. What do you think about the council’s proposals?
