SANDFORD School has said goodbye to very long standing member of staff, Veronica Ayre, who gave 27 years of dedicated service.

Lois Briard, Headteacher, said: "During her time at the school she has made a positive influence on simply hundreds of children and colleagues.

"Having been a pupil at Sandford herself she returned initially to work as a teaching assistant and more recently as a high level teaching assistant.

"Her years at the school also included time in the office as an administrator, too.

"Veronica has been heavily involved in the planning and organisation of our residential trips over many years, braving all weathers as well as letting us use her field for our Year 4 residential."

Ms Briard added: "During a recent school assembly Veronica was presented with a print of the school, a ceramic piece (especially made by Ross at Spreyton Pottery and depicting the well-known Sandford School pillars) and a book of memories and messages from children and former colleagues as well as the traditional Year 6 signed t-shirt."

Veronica said about her time at Sandford School: "After 27 years at Sandford School, I am leaving to take time to pursue my many interests: cycling, painting and gardening.

"Also, I will be able to dedicate more time with my five, gorgeous grandchildren.

"I have seen many fantastic changes over those years, particularly in the ways in which children learn. I only wish I had the same education when I was here as a child! (The last of four generations at Sandford School!)

"It has been an enjoyable and rewarding time here, nurturing and making a difference to the amazing young people who have gone through the school. It has been a real joy!

"Here at Sandford, I have worked with outstanding, innovative and dedicated staff who have been very supportive.

"I know that I will miss the children, hugely. I will miss being part of such an amazing school and I will just miss school.

"However, I am excited to move on and have different experiences and challenges in the future."
