VANDALS have attacked the Christmas tree in Dawlish and town councillors are calling for some ‘respect’ and warned if it continues, the tree may have to be removed.

The council has reported that the tree, which is on the Bandstand on the Lawn, has been the target of vandals.

They have also been trying to climb the festive tree which is breaking the branches.

A spokesman for the town council said: ‘Obviously this is very dangerous if they should fall.

‘Please respect the tree as it is providing a lot of enjoyment and if there is continued vandalism it may have to be removed.’

The festive tree was provide by Dartmoor trees which also supplied the tree in Downing Street.

Its lights were officially switched on during the town’s celebrations several weeks ago.
