I HOPE the planners finally come to their senses and realise the only viable option for the Crediton relief road is the Valley route.
Anyone looking back in 20 years' time would surely consider it utter madness to have chosen either of the other options.
Any benefit derived from the other options would be extremely minimal and totally disproportionate to the money spent.
In addition to serving the Trading Estate the link should be extended to flank Cromwell's Meadow estate to meet up with the Tiverton road at Exhibition Corner.
This has become even more significant with the proposed building at Pedlarspool.
All the traffic, which comes down Jockey Hill, would almost certainly use such a link.
At the same time the road from Barnstaple Cross towards Forches Cross should be made one-way from the section just beyond A and S Paving to where it meets Alexandra Road.
This would allow traffic coming from the Copplestone direction to more easily use the new link if they chose.
Traffic coming up Jockey Hill and turning left at Forches Cross would have to use Alexandra Road and exit opposite Crediton Hospital or before.
There are two or three gateways into farmers' fields which would cause inconvenience but the enormous benefit to the community as a whole would outweigh this.
I think any plea to the planners may well be futile, but I ask them just to stand back and look again.
