SMILE at us, pay us, pass us; but do not quite forget.
For we are the people of England, that never have spoken yet. G K Chesterton.
It must be awkward for those new nice, well meaning but misguided people who wish to stay in the EU; they must be feeling really embarrassed and very, very uncomfortable finding themselves in the company of the likes of Tony Blair, John Major, David Cameron and Jeremy Corbyn.
I didn’t think there was anyone left in this country who still believes a word that Blair says. John Major - against advice from the City - took us into the ERM, which gave us 15 per cent interest rates resulting in devastating company failures, bankruptcies and house repossessions.
Cameron went on American television in 2015 - the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta - claiming not to know what Magna Carta meant.
Corbyn, a lifelong and tireless critic of the EU and favoured leaving, now says the EU is a “good thing” and we ought to stay in.
Clearly these politicians have unsound memories. They also have problems understanding the meaning of words, even simple words like liberty and democracy and truth.
For the past 30 years or so we have been governed by a “Political Class”, a breed of “professional politicians” who all share certain common features:
They take pride in their ignorance of our own history, which they mock and deride.
They have never worked in industry or commerce. Having gone into politics straight from school, they have never held down a proper job so have no base to refer to and, most if not all, have never served in the armed forces.
Their self-serving tribal loyalties are virtually identical; the difference between each Party is finer than a gnat’s wing. And all of them despise us, the electorate.
They truly believe that voters should listen to them instead of them listening to the voters.
The English Civil War (1642-1651) was fought to establish liberty for the people from arbitrary power (and it came with a terrible price tag, a casualty rate so high that as a percentage of the population it exceeded that of the First World War).
From it emerged the Act of Habeas Corpus 1679, unique to this country (but which was effectively abolished by Cameron in 2014 when he signed up to the European Arrest Warrant).
In 1688, The Glorious Revolution made all men, including the Monarch, subject to the law and none above it.
We, the people, elect those who we wish to govern us and we, the people, can dismiss them if they fail in that duty.
Now, compare and contrast our system with that of the EU. If we stay in we will be governed by amoral Parliamentary Muppets who will rubber-stamp the decisions of a few thousand unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats, meeting in secret, who largely appoint each other and, cannot be sacked.
In short, the EU can be said to be modelled on the former Soviet Union, a sort of EUSSR.
Liberty is not passed on to succeeding generations like DNA, it isn’t automatically transmitted to our children, it has to be earned, nurtured, protected and constantly defended against those who would steal it from us, in a heartbeat.
For those of us with sound memories and who do understand the words liberty, democracy and trust, June 23 will be the day to say to that political class of mendacious, self-serving, snake oil salesmen in Westminster - GO! You’ve been rumbled!
Vote Leave!
