THE REPORT in the "Crediton Courier" (October 18) from a recent meeting of the Town Council by Cllr John Downs made much sense, Particularly when he referred to Devon County Council.
As readers know I have been championing the cause of a safer Exeter Road for many years, so I will not bore people by repeating what I have said or done in the past. The past is gone it the future that we must look to.
Following the publication in the "Courier" recently of my open letter to Devon County Council, I can report that I have had a response.
Sadly they come up with much of the same argument. They have looked at the need for a crossing, but cannot find a suitable place to site it.
I have given them two suggestions, one that to my mind could be workable: namely turning the bollards at the top of Exeter Road into a Pelican crossing.
Secondly, the widest part of Exeter Road adjoining Four Mills lane could be considered as a Zebra crossing?
However on a slightly more positive note DCC have agreed to look at the problem of lorries trying to get down Church Street, following my photographic evidence and they might consider looking at the speed of traffic along Bell Parade. We shall see.
On the matter of funding for projects in Exeter Road, they say that there was never such money available. In my letter I said that I believed that there were such monies, and I had it on good authority of its existence; however I did point that I would be prepared to be corrected if this was not the case. There is nothing more that I can say in this regard.
I sincerely hope the Town Council will back Cllr Downs in pushing Devon County Council for a once and for all solution to the problem which will not go away and could in years to come, get worse.
However this issue does make for a very lively and interesting debate via the Crediton Courier.
