A CREDITON businessman will be one of four people driving humanitarian aid to the Ukraine/Polish border in the next few days.

Adam Cocking, Managing Director of Crediton Denture Clinic, explained: “On April 30 we will leave to travel just west of Lviv to the Polish town of Przemysl, right on the border with Ukraine.

“We are very fortunate in this country and decided we could offer some assistance.

“We have a contact in Ukraine who said what is required is combat application tourniquets and haemostat bandages.

“I will be one of four drivers, two for each vehicle, which will be Luton vans donated for the trip by George Rose of Rose Removals of Lapford.

“This is a very kind gesture which really is a big help and I can’t thank Rose Removals enough.

“My fellow drivers work for Vodaphone in Newbury and I am pleased to say that Vodaphone has match-funded the funds we have been able to raise.

“We have raised almost £6,000 on our GoFundMe page and received a donation of £5,000 from Exeter Road Table.

“With the match funding, that means our total currently stands at more than £20,000, which is fantastic.”

In the vans the team will also be taking care packages and survival kits.

Adam added: “Once we have delivered the items we are taking we will then visit the closest open supermarket to buy food items with the donated money and return to where it is needed.”

It is understood that most supermarkets within 25 miles of refugee camps close to Ukraine have completely run out of food.

Adam said that donations to help purchase more food would be welcome.
