AN Open Garden event held over two days at White Cottage, Belle Parade, Crediton, was a resounding success and saw many visitors attend.

The weather was fine for the weekend and hosts Miranda and Roger Olver are pleased to report that the grand total from the fundraiser was £1,943.75.

The sale of paintings, which is included in this total, raised £575.

All the paintings were donated by family friend of the hosts, Jean Grieve, whose work in water colour, pencil and pastel has drawn critical acclaim.

She was a member of the Armed Forces Art Society, attended the Royal School of Art, Portsmouth, has exhibited with the Society of Woman Artist Exhibitors (195-66) and has many works exhibited in private collections around the world.

She has exhibited at the Mall Gallery at the invitation of Tom Coates and has had many commissions.

The delightful gardens at White Cottage contain many hidden areas and are bursting with colourful plants and boarders as well as interesting features.

Delicious teas were served on both days and all the funds raised have been donated to local charity, Hospiscare.
