THE Crediton Singers will be teaming up with South Hams choral group, the Alvington Singers, for a special charity concert which will take place at Crediton Parish Church tomorrow, Saturday, December 16, at 4.30pm.

“There are lots of Christmas events in the evening,” said publicity officer Marie Elliott, “so we thought we’d make it easier for local people to come along to this unique tea-time event by starting earlier.”

The choirs will be singing a critically-acclaimed Christmas Cantata, "A Light In The Stable", by leading English composer Alan Bullard, that features a unique blend of traditional carols.

“The audience can join in several of the carols as well,” adds Marie.

Music teacher Tim Matthews is Choral Director to both choirs. The first half of the concert will be varied, with choral, solo and piano items while the second half includes the Bullard Cantata.

The Crediton Singers was formed in 2014 with a view to raising money specifically for local charities as well as offering an opportunity for Kirtonians to join a choir for the first time.

Since then, several thousand pounds have been raised for Hospiscare, Balloons, Exeter Leukemia Fund and FORCE cancer charities.

The choir now numbers 25 singers of all ages and the singers are really looking forward to this special event.

“It’s a big step singing in a relatively large space,” says Marie. “We’ve tended to use smaller venues up until now but we’re singing with a more experienced choir this time and the sound should be fantastic.

"We’re trying to encourage a large audience by keeping ticket prices down to just £2 in advance and £3 on the door. There’ll also be a range of lovely tea time refreshments served during the interval.”
