TWO charities have shared more than £2,820 - thanks to the generosity of members of Downes Crediton Golf Club.

Exeter Leukaemia Fund and Cystic Fibrosis Trust representatives received the money from a former club captain and member of the catering staff at the club.

Stuart Trowbridge, club captain in 2009, said the money was raised during his year in office through a variety of methods including a bonus ball and other competitions, raffles and a captain's 100-hole challenge.

He said he chose ELF because it was a "locally important charity".

Abby Gowing, from the club's catering department, chose the charity Cystic Fibrosis Trust because her elder sister, Rebecca Gowing, passed away in 2000 from Cystic Fibrosis.

Audrey Williams, regional fundraising manager for Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said the donation was "a wonderful testament to Rebecca Gowing".

She thanked Stuart, Abby and the golf club members and friends for their donation.

The cheque for Exeter Leukaemia Fund was received by Dale Edwards, the charity's chief executive.

He said the charity was looking to increase its patient care, which would include counselling, physical wellbeing and aromatherapy services. He expressed thanks for the generous donation.
