COUNCILLORS from Crediton Town Council and Sandford Parish Council, along with a number of local residents, attended a site visit on Wednesday, June 20, to look at traffic issues concerning the recently-submitted revised plan for 65 homes on land off Higher Road, in the parish of Sandford but adjoining Crediton.

Neal Jillings, on behalf of Place Land LLP, attended with James McKechnie, transportation director, Hydrock, to answer questions from councillors and residents.

Mr Jillings said that he had spoken with Crediton Town Council but had been unable to attend the Sandford Parish Council meeting due to illness.

Mr McKechnie answered questions regarding highway issues and pedestrian access and answered concerns raised about the possibility of an increase in traffic in Alexandra Road.

Mr McKechnie said that the new road in the development would be wider than the current road and allow for two large vehicles to pass, making it an improvement.

Cllr Liz Brookes-Hocking said that Crediton Town Council Emergency committee saw Higher Road as an alternative emergency route if the High Street was closed, as an example, in the event of an accident.

The site for the 65 homes is in a long thin field shielded by woodlands and the previous plan was for 75 homes at the location.

It is anticipated that, as with the Creedy Bridge (Pedlarspool) proposal, that any Section 106 monies would go to Crediton Town Council rather than Sandford Parish Council.

• Do you have a view about the housing plan for Higher Road? Is 65 homes better than 75?
