URGENT funding solutions are being sought to ensure Christmas in Crediton celebrations can take place and be improved upon.

Last year the Crediton Town Council Christmas in Crediton sub-group organised a road closure to enable a large parade to take place as well as a Light Switch-On ceremony and entertainment in addition to trees on shop and business fronts, cross-street lighting and a 25-foot Christmas tree in the Town Square.

At a meeting of the group this week, the group heard that increases in costs of electrical works and installation and organising the events could have a serious impact on plans for this year's celebrations.

The group considered asking for further sponsorship from businesses and individuals, looked at fundraising suggestions and where aspects could be curtailed if funding was not forthcoming.

A National Lottery Awards for All application is in the process of being submitted and approaches to other charitable groups as well as local groups are being considered.

It was hoped that Crediton Chamber of Commerce and Crediton Traders Group would consider funding.

One highlight of the meeting was confirmation announced by Crediton Town Clerk, Mrs Clare Dalley, that Crediton Dairy had agreed to sponsor Christmas in Crediton, again, with £1,000.

Mrs Dalley confirmed that she had approached a number of local companies to ascertain if they would be willing to make a financial contribution to Christmas in Crediton 2015, which this year has a "Fairy Tale" theme.
