THE Best Dressed Shop Window in Crediton this Christmas in the Crediton Courier run competition was Town and Countrywear at 136 High Street, Crediton.

The judges, former Mayor of Crediton, Gillian Ponsford, former Courier editor, Sue Read, Loren Eginton of Helmores estate agents and Phil Cork of Crediton Dairy walked the length and breadth of Crediton's High Street, Market Street, Pannier Market, North Street, and Union Road to find the winner.

Gillian Ponsford described the Town and Countrywear shop window display, which featured a Victorian Christmas scene, complete with a fireplace with models of people sitting beside the fire, as "fantastic".

She said it had an "attention to detail which was second-to-none". The display included lace items, painted wallpaper and fireplace scene with a fire which lit up and many other interesting features.

Runner-up was Bonheur boutique at 14 High Street, Crediton, where the window display included many hand-made snowflakes, which had been made by the owner, Carli Laskey and assistant, Kellie McDonnell.

Third was James Antiques, which incorporated antiques into the window display and created a scene with a cart of gifts drawn by a reindeer.

Others which the judges praised were Evans Newsagents, The Wool Shop, Susans Florists, Ivory Secret, Hospiscare, Adams Home Hardware, Top That Cake, Crediton Bookshop and Groomed to Pawfection. Praise was also extended to Poppy's Café on its lights and decorations display.

Mr Cork congratulated all those who had worked hard on creating some stunning window displays.

Sue Read and Loren Eginton agreed that the displays helped to brighten the town and certainly helped to encourage people to shop locally.

The judges asked that their thanks be recorded to Alan Quick, editorial manager of the Crediton Courier for co-ordinating the competition.

The winning entry was awarded the "Crediton Courier" Rose Bowl for the Best Dressed Window, which had been donated by Sue Read.

Certificates and other prizes went to the winner and runners-up.
