WHEN Tedburn St Mary School said it was having a Family Fun Day, it certainly was just that. Lots of things for everyone to join in, with a wonderful water slide that on a hot day was very well used.

Organised by the Friends of Tedburn St Mary School (FOTSMS) at the event on Friday, June 28, there was an enormous bouncy castle, games including throwing a wet sponge at whichever hapless soul was in the “stocks”, craft stalls, an Auction of Promises, cake stall and lots more.

The water slide was a big tarpaulin laid on the slope of the school playing field, liberally squirted with soap, the water from a bowser supplied by Hi-Line of Tedburn St Mary.

There was also a stall with bowls of coloured sand that can be used to create pictures. Natalie Spencer, who runs this, visits schools, organisations and care homes where she has found that creating the colourful pictures can help people with dementia by prompting memories.

As Tedburn School is trying to persuade the village to go plastic free, there were plenty of recycling bins around, Devon Wildlife Trust was there and Year Six were selling things they had made.

Each had been given £5 to use to come up with a business idea, selling their products to expand their business with funds going back to the school.
