CREDITON musical event promotion organisation, The Music Makers’, welcomes audience members old and new to its next evening event at Crediton Congregational Church tomorrow, Saturday, November 23.

Doors are open for refreshments at 6.30pm, with music from 7pm and hot food available during the interval.

Music Makers’ concerts are run on a “pay-as-you-decide” basis (envelopes provided for donations, with a suggested £7 payment to cover costs).

This event, number 23 in a series started in 2013, features several locally-based musicians performing a variety of music works, old and new, including piano and cello pieces by Handel and J. S. Bach and songs by 20th Century French composer Henri Duparc and Ralph Vaughan Williams, plus some contemporary improvisations on piano and saxophone.

A number of student musicians will be playing, including current Queen Elizabeth’s School pupil and pianist Daniel Toll, a diploma-achieving student of Tim Matthews, plus Tom Mahoney (who has recently been accepted into the National Youth Orchestra) and Ash Scott, a talented improvisatory pianist studying with the South West Music School, a centre of advanced training for gifted young musicians.

Ash and saxophonist Roz Harding were also heard in an “Advanced Students” lunchtime event at Crediton Congregational Church in September.

Baritone singer Dominic Rousseau (new to Music Makers’ events) will be accompanied by pianist Roger Stephenson in a selection of songs by 20th Century composers.

Visitors to Crediton Congregational Church need to be aware that there is no parking currently in front of the church while renovation and enhancements are being carried out. However, ample paid parking is available opposite at St Saviour’s Way car park. Access to the venue is via a side path to the west of the building.

The Music Makers’ will be hosting its annual New Year’s Day concert for young musicians – on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 1.

Some spaces are still available for promising players (age 8-18, who have attained Merit or above at any Grade level, for voice or any acoustic instrument, or as a small ensemble).
