IT is less than a week to the EU referendum, probably the most far reaching decision that people have had to make. Please consider before you vote:
• Economic uncertainty is very damaging. We already see that the £ is dropping in value as well as the stock market. The Leave campaign have not provided any evidence to counter predictions from major economic bodies that a Brexit will lead to a major recession.
A recession will lead to a loss to Government revenue, which in turn will reduce spending on the Pensions, the NHS and education etc.
• The EU has provided many benefits that we take for granted: the ability to travel, work in and receive emergency healthcare throughout the 28 EU countries.
Important infrastructure projects and research grants that keep Britain at the forefront of science and many more, such as important environmental and employment safeguards
• Keeping the UK together, If England votes to leave, and Scotland wishes to stay in the EU it is likely to hold another independence referendum, Wales is economically dependent on the EU and could well follow Scotland in leaving the UK.
• The EU is an open market of 500 million people, which we rely on for 45 per cent of our trade (60 per cent for Devon and Cornwall).
If we leave it is with the clear understanding that it is a once and for all decision, we will not be able to go back. We will also have to pay higher prices for our French or German cars, much of our food and vegetables, which we currently have a secure supply.
These are benefits that are important to all of us.
