THE Crediton World Music Choir begin their new season of Tuesday evening courses on September 28.

More people are invited to join the warm-hearted community choir, which meets during school term time.

The choir sing secular songs from all over the world - mostly just voices in harmony, although sometimes members may add some percussion instruments and believe it or not, the group is not averse to the occasional dance!

Director is Alise Ojay, who formed the Crediton World Music Choir in 1997 and the University of Exeter World Music Choir in 2004.

A singer, composer, arranger and a founding member of the Natural Voicework Practitioners Network, she is also the creator of "Singing for Snorers", a do-it-yourself CD-based exercise programme designed to reduce snoring through toning the muscles of the throat.

Alise's teaching is clear and creative. Armed with a sense of humour and high expectations her goal is that choir members will achieve more than they expect whilst having fun and making friends in the process.

All the songs are taught by ear. Word sheets and/or musical scores are provided for more complex songs.

Alise teaches a basic score-reading workshop whenever there is a demand from new choir members.

She is a choir director, singer and composer.

Alise designed and created Singing for Snorers after conducting the first research into the use of singing exercises to reduce snoring as an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, UK in 1999.

Alise explained that there has recently been an extraordinary degree of media coverage of the Singing for Snorers programme due to the publication of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital clinical trial.

She said that as a result, stocks of Singing for Snorers have temporarily run out.

The triple CD and 48 page booklet costs £42 + postage and packing.
